hwtk is a private, state-accredited University of Applied Sciences located in exciting and vibrant Berlin and in the beautiful city of Baden-Baden. Its innovative and unique concept unites practice-integrated dual work-study, flexible full-time and distance learning study models under one roof. Students can switch between models throughout the course of their studies, making it easy to balance university and personal life. University courses with students from all over the world create an inspiring and meaningful learning experience. The International Office supports students from abroad in all aspects of their studies in Germany and also in the preparation of their stay. Hwtk has been awarded the Erasmus+ charter and strongly encourages its students to spend a semester abroad at one of its many international partner universities.
Graduates of all hwtk degree programmes have excellent career opportunities and are able to support German or international companies with a wide range of management expertise.
The Concept: Three Study Models
Our concept of the three study models is a distinctive feature of the hwtk. Depending on their personal and professional circumstances, students are able to change the study model at the end of the semester. For instance, students might begin studying full time and then seamlessly continue their studies in the dual work-study model.
Key Features of Dual Work-Study Model
- Strong hands-on emphasis: Each week 20 hours of study and 20 hours of work in a carefully selected partner company (“split-week” system)
- International: Training in foreign languages and intercultural comprehension
- Personalized learning: Dialogue-orientated lectures
- Soft Skills: Social and cultural skills training in class and at the partner company
Key Features of Full-Time Study Model
- Practice-orientated: Integration of theory and practice in lectures, work placements and case studies
- International: Training in foreign languages and intercultural comprehension
- Personalized learning: Dialogue-orientated lectures
- Soft Skills: Training in social skills and cultural knowledge

- Practice-orientated: Integration of theory and practice in learning content
- Soft Skills: Training in social skills and cultural knowledge
Our Recommendation
The dual work-study model with the split-week system offers international applicants the best possibility to combine theory with practice: Students are employed at a German partner company for the duration of their studies and spend 20 hours studying and 20 hours working as trainees. Plus, it will give them perfect job prospects within the EU’s largest national economy. Most partner companies not only cover the tuition fees but also pay a monthly allowance as well.
Our Promise
We believe in exclusivity instead of volume, offering all our students the best service and strongest support in dealing with any questions or concerns. We will gladly help dual students with finding a suitable partner company or assist full-time students in finding a student job. On-campus accommodations as well as an experienced, multilingual International Office will provide “Internationals” with all the help they need for a perfect start to the academic and business world.
